PCMark 7

PCMark 7 è la nuova utility di benchmarking e test del proprio sistema sviluppata da Futuremark, specifica per l'utilizzo con sistema operativo Windows 7, che riprende la tradizione delle precedenti release di PCMark. La finalità di questo strumento è quella di fornire una indicazione di sintesi del comportamento del proprio sistema, affiancando a questo alcuni risultati di sintesi specifici per alcuni dei sottosistemi implementati.

PCMark 7 viene proposto in 3 distinte versioni, tutte basate sullo stesso eseguibile da scaricare che vengono attivate in funzione del tipo di codice che viene acquistato. La Basic Edition è completamente gratuita; quella Advanced viene proposta a 39,95 dollari mentre la release Professional è proposta a 995,00 dollari. PCMark 7 comprende 7 differenti gruppi di test, per un totale di 25 workload individuali che possono venir eseguiti. I test sono raggruppati nelle seguenti categorie:

• The PCMark test measures overall system performance and returns an official PCMark score.
• The Lightweight test measures the capabilities of entry level systems unable to run the full PCMark test.
• The Entertainment test measures system performance in entertainment, media and gaming scenarios.
• The Creativity test measures performance in typical creativity scenarios involving images and video.
• The Productivity test measures system performance scenarios using the Internet and office applications.
• The Computation test contains workloads that isolate the computation performance of the system.
• The Storage test contains workloads that isolate the performance of the PC's storage system.

Questi i requisiti minimi di sistema per poter eseguire il benchmark:

OS: Microsoft Windows 7
Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory: 1 GB for x86 systems or 2GB for x64 systems
Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible graphics adaptor
Display: 1024x600 minimum display resolution
Hard drive: 10 GB free space, NTFS file system

Di seguito, invece, la configuazione minima consigliata per l'esecuzione del benchmark:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium or higher
Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory: 1 GB for x86 systems or 2GB for x64 systems
Graphics: DirectX 11 compatible graphics adaptor
Display: 1280x1024 display resolution
Hard drive: 10 GB free space, NTFS file system

I test del gruppo Entertainment richiedono necessariamente la presenza di una scheda video DirectX 10 per poter venire eseguiti. Per i test Computational invece è necessaria una scheda video DirectX 11.

Di seguito le novità introdotte nell'ultima release:

IMPROVEMENTS

- Enhanced accuracy in video playback drawn frames measurement.
- In addition to the standard result, PCMark 7 Storage tests now report additional "raw" results where the metric idle values have been excluded from the score calculation.
- Enable or disable hardware accelerated video transcoding from the Help tab for troubleshooting.
- Improved logging.

COMPATIBILITY

- Now fully compatible with Windows 8.
- The Web Browsing test has been completely rewritten to avoid compatibility issues with Windows 8. The previous implementation was based on Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC); the new one is a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application. The heavy lifting in the test is still done by the WebBrowser2 control. Benchmark scores are affected, in most cases going up by a few percent.
- SystemInfo updated to version 4.15 for Windows 8 compatibility.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed issues in video transcoding tests and added transcoding output file validation. These changes affect benchmark scores.
- Fixed a data compression bug in the storage workloads. Benchmark scores are affected in configurations that use data compression at the hardware level.
